A few years back we turned on the Today Show to see the smiling face of Al Roker standing at Churchill Downs learning how to make a classic mint julep from Fred Noe, a seventh-generation distiller for Jim Beam. We think this might still be the best Mint Julep Recipe out there and we must admit, since then, we have spent many, many hours testing lots of other recipes. 🙂

.Here is the Mint Julep Recipe as seen on the Today Show:

  • 1 part simple syrup
  • 2 parts Bourbon
  • Add crushed ice
  • The most important part is the mint – first spank the mint and then add it to the mint julep cups
  • Top your mint julep off with more crushed ice
  • Enjoy!
  • Hint (not on the video): An extra-nice touch is to trim straws so they just slightly stick out of the cup. Hence, when guests sip from the short straws, their noses will be close to the refreshing mint garnish.

The Moscow Mule is Back Just in Time for Christmas!

The Moscow Mule is Back Just in Time for Christmas!

Yes, the Moscow Mule is back! And just in time for Christmas revelry. We love the idea of setting up a Christmas drink station  to spread holiday cheer. And letting our guest serve themselves would free up our designated bartenders so they too could enjoy the festivities. The hardest part about making the Moscow Mule is finding beautiful affordable mugs. So we were thrilled to be find these copper mugs. We love them all but are particularly enamored with the hammered copper mugs and think this Moscow Mule Gift Set would make a great stocking stuffer and holiday gift exchange present!

We are always searching for the perfect meatloaf recipe for one of of all time favorite dinner party themes, the ultra casual but oh so much fun  Gastropub | Craft Beer Dinner Party.  So we were thrilled to have found this recipe for the One Meatloaf to Rule Them All. It turns out that over the course of two weeks, Bon Appétit's Test Kitchen contributor Jessie Damuck and author  Dawn Perry ate meatloaf every single day, sometimes twice a day. And while meatloaf is not typically part of their regular diet, Jessie had taken on the noble task of developing Bon Appétit’s Best Meatloaf. Not a turkey loaf, not a lentil loaf, a meatloaf. It doesn’t sound pretty. Go on, say it, “Meat. Loaf.” But a meatloaf like this one is a thing of beauty.

Here is not only the recipe but also a description of what went into developing their recipe for the best meatloaf ever. Continue Reading →
