Mountain Day Inspiration >> Celebrate Autumn!

Today is Mountain Day! The Smith College bells were rung early this morning (October 5th) to announce that the college’s president has suspended classes for the day. Students are free to go hiking, have picnics, pick apples at local farms, or just take a relaxing break. #smithmountainday

What a beautiful tradition!  As some of you who have been following me for a while know, this is not the first time I have waxed poetic about Mountain Day.  I truly believe that every institution and organization should establish a similar holiday dedicated to re-invigorating the soul. The Giving Tree Theme Party Planning, Ideas & Supplies

Monica texted me today and challenged Party Idea {Pros} to come up with a few ideas for a thoughtful yet playful The Giving Tree theme event the school is hosting for Grandparents Day. I didn’t have much time to pull it all together but I do believe this is a good starting point to give the committee direction and to get their creative juices flowing.

Any of the trees, real or not, will work well on a buffet.  The least expensive way to approach the event is to fill a large clear vase with red apples and then go into the back yard and gather some tree branches to add to the vase or simply use apples at different heights to decorate your table.  Other options include this artificial apple tree priced at just $33.99  as well as living celebration trees  which you can give away as gifts at the end of the night or plant on campus. We always like bonsai trees since they herald good fortune and happiness. We also think this white cardboard DIY wishing tree kit is really cute  and the accessories are available in many colors including blue and yellow.  Whatever you choose, we would recommend picking up a few The Giving Tree (it’s even available in Hebrew!)books and propping them up on the buffet.

Gift choice will vary depending on your budget.  The most economical would be  either the heart shape plantable seeds (grandparent <3) or flower shape plantable seeds.  you could display them in a bucket or hang them from the buffet and/or centerpiece trees.  Simple, thoughtful, cute!  We also like the symbolism behind this miniature watering can filled with plantable seeds.  Personalized plantable magic wishing beans start at just 59 cents each or can be packaged in a cute flower pot or watering can for an additional ~$2.00 each. We also like these chocolate covered pretzel sticks – they remind us of tree branches.

Hope this helps.

Get the School Spirit – Save on Fan Poms!

Whether you call them fan poms, spirit poms, or rooter poms, this staple of cheer and pom pom squads are typically used to encourage crowd participation and to build team spirit at high school and college sporting events.

Spiritline is now offering individuals, organizations, and fundraising groups a special discount on the bulk purchase of 50 or more spirit poms.   Sports fan poms do especially well in gift shops and concession stands because fans find them to be fun and affordable and can be ordered in most school color combinations.  Additionally fan poms can be used as a fundraising tool by selling advertising space on custom coupon handle poms.

But our absolute favorite use of spirit poms is to gather a few dozen together and place them in  inexpensive white (or any color) urns to create  festive, colorful, impressive table centerpieces!  Perfect for end of year banquets, award ceremonies, school fundraisers, graduation celebrations, and yes, even patriotic parties.  It may be worth hanging around after the game to gather the poms left by fans in the stands.  🙂

If you need fewer than 50 poms, check out Spiritline‘s sister company Shindigz whose minimum pom order is 12 each rather than 5o each.

Go Team! Party Hearty!
