Our Favorite Jewish New Year Gifts

Our Favorite Jewish New Year Gifts

Today, as we are running around at the last minute searching for a Rosh Hashana dinner host{ess} gift, we realize we should have planned ahead.  Yep, we messed up and ended up buying a boring box of chocolates rather than bringing something truly memorable. So we went back to our earlier Rosh Hashanah post and reminded ourselves just how much we love both of these Nambe Honey Pots and Dippers. They are perfect for Rosh Hashana dinner and equally perfect as a host{ess} gift for Break the Fast. Continue Reading →

Minted's Elegant Online Invitations

As many of you are all too aware, we generally really dislike online invitations. Up until now, we have not enjoyed the experience. It has always been a wee bit tacky. Well, leave it to Minted to change our minds. We are happy to report, that they have developed a line of online invitation experiences that will make you smile. We never thought we would combine the terms online invitations and elegant. And that is exactly what they are.   Best yet, because these invitations are still in beta, they are FREE so long as you send it to 5 recipients (not including yourself). Continue Reading →

Hanukkah Dinosaur Menorahs

Hanukkah Dinosaur Menorahs

OMG! Ok, these Dinosaur menorahs may not be strictly Kosher (because the candles are not in a straight line) but they check both the unique and absolutely fabulous boxes! Here is the kicker, you need to order them TODAY, or if not today, very soon for them to arrive in time for Chanukah.  This year, 2015, Hanukkah begins the night of December 6th! According to Lisa Pierce, of thevanillastudio, most of these menorahs will ship in 2-3 weeks but as we get closer to Chanukah, and the word about these dinosaur menorahs starts to get out, our gut is that she may get swamped with orders. Whether you choose a Menorasaurus Rex, Menociraptor, or Triceratops, all of these menorasaurs are Hand-crafted made to order! Constructed from repurposed plastic toys and metal candle cups, these dinosaur menorahs are fully functional and reusable for Chanukah fun far into the future! They are available to order in gold and silver and are generally 10″ – 15″ long and 5″-8′ tall. And yes, we are definitely adding these to our Hanukkah posts.

If your child is truly obsessed with dinosaurs, you might want to check out everything dinosaur on MomMeMatch.com (no you do not have to wear matching dinosaur clothing, but you can!) There are also tons of games and activities for you and your child to engage in together and of course, you can always throw a dinosaur theme party.

Email Beautiful Jewish New Year Cards – FREE!

For years I have been sending out wishes of sweet blessings filled with abundant joy and peace to friends and family as we prepare to celebrate another religious holiday, the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. But in all truthfulness, for the last few years, I have gotten lazy. Rather than planning ahead and keeping an eye out for the perfect L'Shanah Tovah greeting card months in advance as I did in my youth, I have waited until the last minute and ended up sending blah picture-less emails with a line or two of text.  If I was feeling particularly industrious and creative, I colored the text blue.

This year I found an amazing company, PurpleTrail.com that not only has lovely selection of elegant Jewish New Years  cards, they encourage their visitors to personalize their cards by adding photos, moving and changing text, and even adding embellishments and background images.   And best of all, Purple Trail  offers the choice of mailing your cards, printing your cards at home, or emailing them!  And now for the clincher — you can send online invitations or eCards for FREE to up to 50 email recipients!  If you want to send your card to more than 50 email addresses or would like to add music to your card, simply join one of Purple Trail's membership clubs — all very, very reasonably priced.

Wishing you a Happy and Healthy New Year – L' Shanah Tovah

Rosh Hashanah New Year Cards

In secular society, January 1st is the official start of the new year but for Jewish people world wide, Rosh Hashanah marks the new year and new beginnings.  For me, Rosh Hashana is one of my very favorite Jewish holidays. It is generally celebrated in September or early October (I can't give you an exact date since the Hebrew lunar calendar is only 354 days verses 365 days in the solar calendar so the days don't line up the same every year. For example, Rosh Hashana 2015 begins on the evening of September 13th whereas next year the holiday starts on the evening of October 2, 2016.)  and more or less coincides with the onset of a new school year.   Growing up, when we went back to school shopping we also picked up a new Fall outfit for the High Holidays. To this day I buy a school calendar (September – September) rather than the traditional January to January calendar – it is more organic, it is more intuitive. Continue Reading →
