Apples and Honey Host{ess} Gifts for the Jewish New Year

For the last 25 years we have been tasked with finding a gift for our Rosh Hashana dinner hosts. And every year we end up running out at the last minute to buy an ok gift but nothing particularly thoughtful or special. This year we have vowed to order a gift from GiftTree, tonight, so it will arrive by Erev Rosh Hashana (Wednesday September 20th, 2017). These three very special gifts work equally well as host{less} gifts for Yom Kippur Break the Fast as they do for Rosh Hashana dinner. And although GiftTree has a huge selection of gifts from which to choose, we decided to narrow our choice to apples and honey gifts.

Move Over Cupcakes >> Donut Stands are Here!

We admit it, we are officially obsessed with these donut stands. Finally a way to push cupcakes off the party and wedding circuits and replace them with with something truly yummy. Yes, we love donuts. It might be the hours sitting in the hospital cafeteria on Saturday mornings eating donuts while we waited for our dad to finish his rounds or it might be that although elusive, nothing beats a great donut. Best Mint Julep Recipe to Serve at Your Kentucky Derby Party

Classic Mint Julep Recipe to Serve at Your Kentucky Derby Party

Mint Juleps for your Kentucky Derby Party, mint julep recipe

Compare Mint Julep recipes and consider tempting alternatives:
Mint Juleps | Alcohol-Free Mint Julep | Mojito | Mint Tea Punch

A few years back we turned on the Today Show to see the smiling face of Al Roker standing at Churchill Downs learning how to make a classic mint julep from Fred Noe, a seventh-generation distiller for Jim Beam. We think this might still be the best Mint Julep Recipe out there and we must admit, since then, we have spent many, many hours testing lots of other recipes. 🙂

.Here is the Mint Julep Recipe as seen on the Today Show:

  • 1 part simple syrup
  • 2 parts Bourbon
  • Add crushed ice
  • The most important part is the mint – first spank the mint and then add it to the mint julep cups
  • Top your mint julep off with more crushed ice
  • Enjoy!
  • Hint (not on the video): An extra-nice touch is to trim straws so they just slightly stick out of the cup. Hence, when guests sip from the short straws, their noses will be close to the refreshing mint garnish.
