Halloween Piñatas

Halloween piñatas

Halloween Piñatas

Kids love piñatas almost as much as they love candy.  So combining a piñata with Halloween trick or treating – how perfect is that!  We love these Halloween Piñatas – a scary black cat, a giant flying bat, a witch on a broomstick, an adorable Frankenstein, and a great carved pumpkin.

Halloween Piñatas are not only perfect additions to any party they may be a great alternative for those of you not so into trick or treating, begging for candy by knocking on strangers doors.  The fact is that some children really do find the holiday of Halloween scary and overwhelming so inviting a few friends over to your house for a costume party may be just the answer.  Send out Halloween invitations, serve Halloween theme food & drink, play Halloween games, offer cute Halloween party favors, have a costume fashion show, and end the festivities with breaking the piñata so everyone walks away with a bagful of candy.  This way you also have complete control over the candy and don't have to comb through pillow cases full of yucky unwrapped candy handed out by strangers.

Have a safe Halloween and party hearty!

50% off Pack of 450 Printable Games

Printable GamesFor one day only, September 18, 2012, Funsational is offering 50% off its MVP Printable Games Party Collection including new Halloween games.

So sorry – not only has this deal expired, Funsational has closed its doors. But not to worry – Print Games Now has taken up the slack! You can also find lots of fun printable games on Etsy.

Both Print Games Now carry Holiday, Seasonal, and Event games; Baby Shower, Bridal Shower, Birthday, Over-the-Hill, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Spring, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Harvest, Christmas, New Year's and Winter games.

If we get one question more than any other, it is “do you have any ideas of games to play at my party and by the way, our guests are arriving in 45 minutes.”  Our answer is always the same — yes, go online and order a theme pack of printable games.  The biggest time suck is always the actual ordering and, of course, the printing of the games.  Something always goes awry — generally I forget to fill in a required field and then have to start the ordering process all over again or my printer runs out of paper or worse yet, the printer jams because it knows I am in a rush.  So if you plan in advance, you will not only have peace of mind that you have easily accessible party activities (you have access to the games 24/7), you also have plenty of time to print them out well before your guests arrive.

Have Fun and Party Hearty!

“Give Back” Birthday Party Craft Activity

"Give Back" Birthday Party Craft ProjectToday's mom's have little trouble creating beautiful and festive children's birthday party celebrations but sometimes between our own crazy busy schedules and the quest to throw the this year's most talked about event, we forget to add the little things that make the day especially meaningful.  We think it is important for kids to know how much we love them but equally important for them to understand they are not the center of the universe.  Kids need to learn and develop  a healthy sense of self which includes compassion and caring of others.  What better day to teach this lesson than on the very day they are lavished with gifts.  Teach by example – integrate a “Give back” craft activity into your child's birthday party in addition the the usual birthday fun and party games.  This “Give Back” craft activity would also be a wonderful addition to any classroom holiday party and could even be incorporated into a baby shower.

Our favorite “Give Back” birthday party activity is making easy no sew fleece blankets for local children or seniors in need.  This activity is super simple, appropriate for all ages and sexes and can seamlessly (yes, pun intended) fit into most party themes.   Basically if you can use a scissors and tie a knot you can make this blanket.  All you need is cute fleece fabric, scissors, and a ruler or tape measure. Depending on the age of the children involved you may want to pre-cut 6″ (or 4″) square cut out from each corner.

What to buyThemed Fleece

For a larger adult size blanket use 2 yards of each fabric.   And we think for small children and toddlers you can get away with using even less fabric especially if the blanket is meant more for “shlepping” around as a security blanket rather than for warmth.

We must admit, fleece can be rather pricey, often running between $11 and $15 per yard.  That is why September is a a perfect time to buy fleece.  Both Hancock Fabrics and Joann are a offering select fleece on sale at up to 70% off!!!  Plus we just checked Amazon and their fleece fabric definitely seems more reasonably priced, especially for a craft project.

Party Hearty!

Halloween Silly Bandz

Skip the candy!  Pass out Halloween Bandz to all your trick or treaters.  Great for Halloween classroom parties and as costume accessories, too!

What are bandz?

The bandz craze seems to have begun in Birmingham Alabama last year and now bandz are flying off shelves throughout the country. These colorful rubber bands are made of silicone and die molded, come in a variety of shapes and themes, and are manufactured by a handful of vendors. Basically, kids wear them, collect them, and trade them! Bandz come in multi-band packs starting at about $5.00/pack. Best of all, Bandz make for great party favors and napkin rings! (Warning: Choking Hazard! Not recommended for children under 3 years old!) Continue Reading →
